Manufacturing Initiative Officials to Unveil Action Plan for Industry Growth CEOs’ Input Forms Basis of Report

CONCORD - New Hampshire economic development and business officials will unveil an action plan to preserve the state’s manufacturing base at the 2nd Annual Manufacturing Summit to be held Wednesday September 22 from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Grappone Center.

The action plan, developed by state and local economic development and business leaders, was crafted from comments and observations made by manufacturing CEOs at seven regional “listening sessions” held throughout the state. Stuart Arnett, Director of the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development, will discuss the plan following an informational town meeting style session with many of the CEOs who hosted listening sessions.

Other highlights of the Summit, sponsored by the Business & Industry Association of NH, NH Division of Economic Development, NH Manufacturing Extension Partnership, the Knowledge Institute, the NH High Technology Council, the NH Workforce Opportunity Council and the NH Small Business Development Center, include a sneak preview of a NetworkNH study on the future of high tech manufacturing in New Hampshire, a keynote address by Don Wainwright, Chairman of the National Manufacturing Council and a special presentation on healthcare cost drivers by Andy Smith, Director of the University of NH Survey Center and Ned Helms of Helms & Co. Senator John Sununu will provide remarks via a videotaped message and Governor Craig Benson will appear during the early afternoon session.

Sponsors for the event include Public Service of New Hampshire, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Fidelity Investments, the Knowledge Institute, Laconia Savings Bank, New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, Inc., the Manufacturing Extension Partnership, New England College, Creative Optics Inc., Ocean National Bank, the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development and the New Hampshire International Trade Resource Center.

The Manufacturing Summit is the first event in the “Economic Development Hat Trick” series. The New Hampshire Telecommunications Summit will take place on October 27-28 at the Sheraton Nashua and the New Hampshire Entrepreneurial Summit will take place December 6-7 at the Red Jacket Mountain View in North Conway.
