Next Generation Manufacturing Day
This is a module-oriented day of workshops. Come for one workshop or stay for the day. There is no fee to attend, however we do ask that you register to reserve your space for each workshop.
Workshop 1: "Technology Driven Market Intelligence (TDMI)"
8:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. Technology Driven Market Intelligence (TDMI), a new NH MEP growth service, is for companies considering launching a new technology-based product or entering a new market. TDMI provides a systematic and comprehensive approach to focused market intelligence, which directly considers the benefits and market impacts related to your company’s specific technology-based asset (e.g., idea, product, process). This session will give you a basic understanding of an MEP proven TDMI process and provide real world small manufacturer case studies. You will learn how the NH MEP can help you understand the strengths and weaknesses of your technology asset, identify and characterize the market opportunities and barriers for your asset, and gain the intelligence you need to make accurate decisions for new technology driven products and markets. TDMI is presented by NH MEP in conjunction with RTI International, a world leading research institute and innovation management consultancy. Workshop 2: "Introduction to Systematic Layout Planning" 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. NHMEP utilizes the data driven process of Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) developed by Dr. Richard Muther. This is a team-based systematic process that uses actual data to determine the most effective and efficient layout possible. SLP is recognized throughout the world as the most organized and effective way to develop layout plans. Layout is an integral part of a Lean Manufacturing Strategy. Facilities are expensive. Their lifetime is in decades. They take years to commission. By their nature, they are one of the most important strategic elements of a business enterprise. This is why facility design and the strategic thinking that should precede it are so important. Workshop 3: "Job Instruction Training" 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Job Instruction (JI) Training quickly trains employees to do a job correctly, safely, and conscientiously. Demands of developing a flexible workforce and training employees requires standard work. Employees are taught how to effectively breakdown a job and deliver instruction for individual tasks. The Job Instruction method will help you prepare the operator to learn, give a proper demonstration, identify the key points in the job, observe the operator perform trial runs, and taper off coaching while continuing to follow up. This session will serve as an introduction to the five-day, interactive JI workshop. You will also walk away understanding the benefits your company can achieve by having employees properly trained. Workshop 4: "Executive Information Session - The Principles of Lean Manufacturing" 2:45 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. This workshop is designed for companies at the begining of their Lean journey or those in need of a refresher. You will be introduced to the Principles of Lean Manufacturing and learn how these principles can positively impact your business. A representative from the Business Resource Center will also be available to inform you of additional resources available to NH businesses.
